Dockers Fans Gather for Game Nights

Weekly Dockers fan meet-ups at the farm with shared snacks.

A pelican glides across a calm lake, leaving a narrow wake behind it. Reflections of trees ripple on the water, with blurred green leaves in the foreground.

Happy Winter Solstice! And doesn’t it feel like we’re in the depths of winter. It’s been properly cold, at least for this part of the world. Now we just need more rain.

Last week was a quiet one at the farm as many of us were down with a rather severe dose of the flu. Daniel has managed to avoid it and somehow worked even longer hours than usual so that the rest of us could recover. He’s been pretty happy with the way the Dockers have been going this season and it helped they had a good game last week.

A lovely and completely random bunch of people have started coming together weekly at the farm to watch the Dockers play. They don’t really know each other except for having recognised a fellow Dockers fan, either at the farm or even when out walking the dog, which has been enough to strike up a conversation and invite them along. There’s all ages from teens to retirees and they bring a plate of something to share, a flask of tea or a beer, pull the couches around the projector and cheer away. If you want to know more, have a chat to Daniel next time you stop by.

Sliced chocolate loaf cake on a black tray, dusted with cocoa powder. Dried rose petals are scattered along the top.

All our cakes are made in house and are wheat free. This here is the super fudgy chocolate and almond cake. Full of dark chocolate, almond meal, butter and vanilla.

Two brown hens with red combs stand close to the camera on a grassy farmyard, with another hen behind them. Fences and farm buildings are visible in the background.

While Sally and Patrick are away, we have been looking after their chooks, and they are a delight! For many years we have kept chickens, but always heritage breeds and this is the first time we have had anything to do with Isa Browns, which are the main commercial egg laying breed. They are so curious, gentle and friendly with none of the attitude of our Australorps and Wyandottes.

Close-up of pink daisy-like flowers and buds with green foliage in the foreground. A blurred garden path and plants stretch into the background.
