Winter Planting and Pumpkin Treats

Peas and broad beans planted; pumpkin recipes in cafe.

Rows of bare grapevines stretch across a flat field with wooden posts and wire trellises. A tree line sits on the horizon beneath a cloudy sky with pale sunlight.

The leaves have fallen from the vines, the mornings are dark and the dam is slowly, slowly not looking so empty. It is beautiful on the farm at this time of year and on the days the sun is out, it is warming on the north facing verandah. The chooks are loving all the green grass that’s available and the goats are looking more like fluffy toys with their thick winter coats.

In the garden we have been busy planting peas, broad beans and the last of the garlic, and building new beds in anticipation of spring. I also completed one of my favourite tasks of winter, placing a seed order for spring and summer planting! It feels far away to be thinking of zucchini and tomato, but seeding time will be here before we know it.

The cafe has been ticking over this last week, and we’re coming up with all the ways to use pumpkin - in toasties, soup and muffins. New ginger biscuits will be trialled this week and hopefully they’re well received.

The community space was converted to a dance floor for Faeble’s fourth birthday - Happy Birthday Faeble! Thanks to local dj LudaChris for putting on the music, we heard the adults enjoyed it just as much, if not more than the kids. Interested in booking Gathered for your next get together? Get in touch and we can let you know what we can offer.

Brown, long-haired dog wearing a harness sits on a concrete patio, attached to a leash held by a person’s hand. Plastic chairs and a parked vehicle are in the background under bright sunlight.

Dogs are very welcome at Gathered, especially woofies as ridiculously cute as this one! Oh my goodness, those ears were so soft.

Hands at a craft table draw on paper and paint a black-outlined Snoopy design on a plain canvas tote bag. Paint tubes, markers, and brushes are scattered around the bag.

In the kids farm sessions this week, they tried their hand at stencilling or in this case, free drawing on calico tote bags. How amazing is this creation! She did this completely by hand with no tracing or ruled lines. Very impressive work!

Three black-and-white ducks stand on a dirt path, with one duck in the foreground facing the camera. Green plants and a large rock sit along the edge of the path.

The ducks are LOVING this weather. Green things, bugs, water everywhere. It’s their version of heaven.
