Organic Greens and Nanna Craft Sessions

This week: fresh greens update and craft help sessions.

Six bright green lettuce heads growing in dark soil, viewed from above. A strip of small groundcover plants runs along the bottom edge, with the tip of a boot visible.

This time of year the leafy greens are in their element. This week the following is arriving directly from the farm and other local organic growers - whole butterhead lettuce (pictured), radish, loose leaf spinach, carrot bunches, loose lettuce mix, broccoli, cabbage, onion, potato, kale, silverbeet, lime and lemon. Coming our way from Perth and all certified organic are sweet potato, garlic, celery, cauliflower, ginger, banana, Sundowner apples, Granny Smith apples, Packham pears, red grapes and beetroot.

Everything sold through the farm shop is sourced from the farm in the first instance, local growers or the organic wholesaler in Perth. At the moment all produce is organic, except for locally grown avocado, which is chemical free except for weed control the growers used on the property (but not around the trees), and this is labelled instore.

Reduced supply chains and transparency is a core principle that we have always stuck to at Gathered and we are always happy to explain where produce has come from and how it was grown, so please always ask if you are wondering!

Orange and pink sunset clouds fill the sky above a dark tree line on the horizon. A flat dirt area and fenced fields stretch across the foreground.

Another spectacular Djeran sunrise. The sun is just coming up around opening time at the moment and the view over the vineyard looking east is beautiful in the mornings.

There is a pinned post about this in every newsletter, but here is a recent pic of one of our more recent Nanna sessions. Every Thursdays from 1 to 3pm a group of volunteers make themselves available to help anyone sew, knit, crochet, embroider, repair or upcycle their own things. They won’t do it for you, but will happily sit by your side and show you how to do it yourself. A sewing machine is also available to use during this time if you have anything you want to patch or repair too.

Assorted fresh produce spread on a wooden table, including leafy greens, beets, carrots, potatoes, radishes, celery, leeks, kale, broccoli, onions, and a halved squash. Also shown are bananas, pears, plums, tomatoes, and a wrapped salmon fillet.
