Pumpkin, fetta and pinenut savoury muffins, available in the cafe and online.
We’re stepping up the soup game this week by offering two housemade, wholefood only soups both in the cafe (dine in or takeaway) and online as a take home meal. First up will be a potato, parsley and thyme soup with Farmhouse pork chorizo and also a carrot, cumin and coriander soup as the vego option. The muffins on rotation this week will be made with seasonal, organic fruit and will include persimmon and white chocolate, orange and poppy seed, as well as pear and walnut.
We often get asked what the homeschool kids get up to when they are at the farm, so here’s a snapshot of what’s on the cards for the coming week - The kids will be planting out their first seeds and seedlings in the community rows after weeding the beds and learning how to read seasonal planting charts last week and planning what to put in the ground as the days become longer. They have asked for sugar snaps, lettuce, beetroot, cornflowers and violas. A good start! They’re also learning about the first of the twelve principles of permaculture, being observe and interact. They will look at what this means from the personal level right out to society and the wider community. The kids will make a shared lunch to enjoy together, then learn about sourdough and make a starter from scratch, to take home and look after as well as preparing the first stages of making a herbal tincture. The older kids were also set the task of researching the complete life cycle of an everyday item (like toothpaste) and they will share their findings with their friends. All in one day.
Thank you to everyone who makes the effort to stop by and shop with us. It is always truly appreciated, especially as we delve deeper into the lowest point of the year for seasonal variety of fruit and veg. With the cold, short days nothing really grows very quickly so we wait with anticipation for the days to become longer and warmer and more produce to appear in the farm shop. It’s all a part of eating locally and with the seasons!
